Stan Moody, 19, gave former world champion Kyren Wilson a scare at the World Championship this year

Rising snooker star Stan Moody has hit out at Kyren Wilson, branding the former world champion's victory celebration "disgusting" following their World Championship clash.

The 19-year-old made history in April when he stepped onto the Crucible stage for his debut at the prestigious tournament, becoming the first British teenager to do so since Judd Trump back in 2007.

Despite putting up a spirited fight, Moody ultimately fell 10-7 to Wilson in their first-round encounter in Sheffield.

But it's what happened after the final ball was potted that's really got the youngster fired up.

Moody had actually given Wilson quite the scare during their match, making a brilliant impression on his Crucible bow.

The teenager rattled off two century breaks to storm into a commanding 6-3 advantage after the opening session.

It looked like a genuine upset might be on the cards, but Wilson showed exactly why he's a former world champion.

The world number two clawed his way back into the contest, winning several tight frames to eventually seal the victory.

When the match concluded, Wilson launched into an exuberant celebration, repeatedly pumping his fists in triumph – and that's what really got under Moody's skin.

Speaking to Metro, Moody didn't mince his words about Wilson's post-match antics.

"The celebration at the end, I thought it were a bit disgusting, to be honest," he said. "A world champion, world number two, I think it were a bit out of order, but it is what it is."

The teenager acknowledged that fellow professional Shaun Murphy had defended Wilson's right to celebrate however he pleased.

"He has got every right to do it, but I think a lot of people looked at that and said he shouldn't really be doing that," Moody added.

"I wouldn't have done that at his stage against a young lad, first time there, but everyone's different, you know? It obviously meant a lot to him to beat me, so good on him.

"I'm not bitter at all. He got to 10 first and it is what it is. Classy player and I'll try to beat him next time."

Despite the controversy, Moody had nothing but love for his overall Crucible experience.

"I enjoyed it. Loving the crowd, the atmosphere, just fully zoned in," he reflected.

The arena proved larger than he'd anticipated, but the Yorkshire faithful made him feel right at home, cheering him on throughout.

"The venue didn't really affect me. I still loved being there even when I were losing," he said. "I lost some bad frames, but I learned a lot and hopefully I'll get back there next year and do better."

It had been quite the journey just to reach Sheffield, with Moody defying doctors' orders to play through tonsillitis in qualifying, edging past Jiang Jun 10-9 to secure his historic debut.
