Stephen Hendry stuck to his guns in his criticism of Rebecca Kenna at the World Mixed Doubles.

Stephen Hendry didn't back down when issuing a response to Rebecca Kenna who took offence to him giving her 'stick' at the World Mixed Doubles final.

Kenna was partnered with Mark Selby for the final in Manchester as they took on Luca Brecel and Reanne Evans.

The match was finely poised at the halfway mark with the players returning to the practice tables in the short interval.

Rob Walker did the rounds and spoke to Kenna for her views on the match where he noted that Hendry had paid her some 'compliments' for some her safety play.

But Kenna made it clear that she was unimpressed by some remarks she heard from the seven-time world champion about her decision-making.

"I heard we got some compliments," she said.

"I also heard I got some stick for not going for a black because I released the blue instead.

"But yeah, each to their own."

ITV snooker host Jill Douglas then put it straight back to Hendry for a response.

She said: "Rebecca put you right back in your box there."

But Hendry hit back and stuck to his guns, replying: "I’m sorry but she’s wrong.

"She should have gone for the pink or the black.

"All joking aside, if they're going to win this final tonight, she's going to have to be a bit more aggressive with her shot choice.

"The snookers she laid was fantastic, they won the pair that frame. But I'd like to see be just a bit more aggressive with her shot choice instead of trying to be a bit more careful."

Kenna and Selby ended up losing to Brecel and Evans in the end, but Hendry's comments began gaining traction online.

The 35-year-old issued a response on X to Hendry sticking to his word, admitting she agrees that she could be a bit more aggressive while explaining her decision to go with the blue.

She wrote: "I agree I lack the self confidence to take on shots.

"I didn’t back myself to pot either pink or black & didn’t want to leave them plum in after working so hard to get back into the frame.

"I play and learn, I’m building confidence from every match. 1 day I may be fearless."
