The 86-year-old died last month after a fall at a care home
Sir Bobby Charlton's England shirt from the 1966 World Cup semi-final has sold at auction for a huge £59,000.
The Manchester United and England legend died at the age of 86 last month.
Charlton suffered a fall at a care home and died shortly afterwards, while he'd also been suffering from dementia.
His funeral was held on Monday, with fans turning out to pay their respects to such an icon of the game.
Less than 24 hours after his funeral, Charlton's 1966 shirt went up for auction.
And it fetched a massive £59,000, having gone on sale at 9.30am on Tuesday morning.
It was originally snapped up for a hammer price of £45,000, but the buyer's premium took it up to £59,040 in the end.
Charlton wore the strip while playing for England against Portugal 57 years ago, scoring twice to propel the Three Lions to victory.
England then proceeded to win the famous trophy for the first and only time, beating West Germany 4-2 in the final.
Charlton's shirt was sold by Hansons Auctioneers and initially had a guide price of between £50,000 to £80,000.
A minute's silence was held prior to the auction to mark the death of one of football's greatest players.
Per the Daily Mail, Charlton originally donated the shirt to a charity auction after his heroics in 1966.
He signed it personally to the successful bidder and has changed hands before.
Back in 2000 it was purchased for £9,200, having been valued between £10,000 to £15,000.
Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said the shirt is a 'hugely important piece of football memorabilia'.
"Memories of England’s World Cup win in 1966 will never leave us," he said.
"We are a proud footballing nation and Sir Bobby was part of the unforgettable team who achieved the ultimate glory.
"His 1966 World Cup shirt is a hugely important piece of football memorabilia."
Football figures past and present attended Charlton's funeral, which was held at Manchester Cathedral on Monday.
Sir Alex Ferguson was among the mourners and paid tribute to his friend, saying: "It was very somber, wonderful tribute from his grandson, I thought it was fantastic.
"It's not easy going on speaking, but he was a fantastic man.
"I am United because of Sir Bobby Charlton.
"The day I arrived he supported me 100 per cent, all the way.
"He was totally behind me in everything we tried, and, as I say, I'm here because of Bobby Charlton."
