Travis Kelce made a light-hearted response to a question about retiring

Travis Kelce had a brilliant response when reporters pressed him about retirement following what could have been his final home match at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who has spent his entire professional career at the venue, quipped about the massive Powerball jackpot that was drawn on Christmas Eve.

"The only time it ever crossed my mind is I was driving in the other day, and I saw how much the Powerball was," Kelce told reporters.

"I was like, 'Man, if I could just win that, I wouldn't have to work another day in my life.'"

The lottery prize stood at a staggering $1.7 billion.

The Chiefs fell to the Denver Broncos 20-13 in the Christmas Day clash, with Kansas City already eliminated from playoff contention.

Kelce managed five receptions for 36 yards during the defeat, with third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun making his starting debut following injuries to Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew.

The Arrowhead faithful made their feelings known throughout the evening, chanting Kelce's name after every catch he made.

His fiancée Taylor Swift watched from the stands as the 36-year-old acknowledged her amid all the speculation swirling around his future in the sport.

When Kelce did offer a more thoughtful answer, he made clear that any decision about hanging up his boots wouldn't be made alone.

"Honestly, I've been just focused on trying to win football games, man," he said. "I'll let that be a decision that I make with my family, friends, the Chiefs organization when the time comes."

Earlier in the evening, the three-time Super Bowl champion sat down with former Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez and admitted he was still "searching for answers" about his future.

He revealed the disappointing season had left a "sour taste" in his mouth but said he felt motivated, adding that he would be leaning heavily on his older brother Jason for guidance.

Kelce is currently in the final year of his two-year, $34.25 million contract extension that he signed in 2024.

Despite the team's struggles this campaign, the 36-year-old has put together solid numbers, leading the Chiefs with 73 catches, 839 yards, and five touchdowns.

He's also been voted to the Pro Bowl Games as an AFC representative alongside Brock Bowers.

The Chiefs, who sit at 6-10 and have missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015, will wrap up their season on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on 4th January.
