Brazilian motorcycle racing champion Gustavo Silveira has died at the age of 27 following a devastating crash during competition earlier this month.
The rider, affectionately known as 'Gao' within the motorsport community, passed away on Friday after spending several days fighting for his life in hospital.
Silveira had been involved in an accident on 19 April whilst competing at a Road Race Brasil event held in Anitapolis, located in southern Brazil.
The talented racer had only recently claimed the SuperBike EVO 1000cc title during his inaugural 2025 season, marking himself as one of the country's most promising motorcycle talents.

|Medical personnel provided emergency treatment at the trackside immediately following the incident before Silveira was transported to a nearby hospital facility.
Doctors performed surgery in an attempt to save the young champion's life, but their efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Race organisers confirmed his death whilst emphasising that all established safety protocols had been properly observed at the circuit during the event.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have not been officially clarified, though some fellow competitors have suggested Silveira may have collided with a board after completing a jump during the race.
Road Race Brasil paid tribute to their fallen competitor by declaring a day of mourning rather than racing.

|In their statement, organisers expressed profound grief at the loss, saying: "Today is not a race day. It is a day of silence. With immense sorrow, we announce the passing of rider Gustavo, our Gao."
The organisation described Silveira as integral to the sport itself, stating: "More than a rider, he is part of us – of our essence, our passion, the soul of this sport."
They added that his death leaves behind "an impossible-to-fill void" and called for unity in mourning alongside his loved ones.
Silveira's wife paid an emotional tribute to her late husband, writing simply: "You will never be forgotten."
One family member compared the young champion to a national icon, posting on Instagram: "Our family will never be complete again. Our greatest pride, as grandpa says 'he's like Ayrton Senna, but on a motorcycle'."
Beyond his SuperBike triumph, Silveira had established himself across multiple categories of Brazilian motorcycle racing. He secured victories in the GP600 class of the MOTO1000GP series at both Goiania and Cascavel circuits.
Throughout his career, he represented teams including Pioneiro Motonil and DFG, earning recognition for his fearless approach to competition.
