Spectators will be barred from the Parliament Square viewing area for the remainder of the 2026 Isle of Man TT following a serious crash on the opening day of practice.

The incident occurred at approximately 1.30pm on Monday when a competitor's motorcycle left the course at the exit of Parliament Square in Ramsey and entered a spectator zone during an untimed Superbike and Superstock session.

Eight members of the public required hospital treatment after the collision, with the rider also transported to Noble's Hospital.

Organisers immediately halted all activity on the Mountain Course and cancelled the afternoon's planned qualifying runs.

A fresh update issued on Tuesday morning confirmed that two spectators continue to receive medical care at Noble's Hospital.

The competitor, who sustained injuries to their legs, has since been released from the facility along with six of the spectators who were caught up in the incident.

All nine individuals taken to hospital on Monday were reported as conscious at the time of their admission.

Race organisers expressed their ongoing concern for those affected, stating that their "thoughts remain with those involved in the incident, together with their families and friends."

Organisers have characterised the crash as "unusual" in nature, prompting the precautionary closure of the viewing area.

The decision followed what officials described as a "structured safety review" conducted by race, safety and operational personnel in the aftermath of Monday's events.

According to the statement, the assessment involved "detailed consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the wider operational environment."

A multi-agency investigation into the crash remains ongoing, though several immediate measures have already been put in place ahead of racing resuming.

Officials emphasised that protecting competitors, spectators, marshals and all event personnel "remains our highest priority."

Qualifying is set to get underway on Tuesday evening at 18:30 BST after Monday's sessions were scrapped in the wake of the incident.

The evening programme will cover all racing categories, beginning with Superbike and Superstock machines before moving on to Supersport and Sportbike competitors, with Sidecars rounding off proceedings.

Monday's opening day had begun in ideal conditions, with newcomers taking to the 37.7-mile Mountain Course from around 10.45am followed by various classes throughout the morning and early afternoon.

Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson had confirmed the cancellation of afternoon qualifying as emergency services managed the situation at Parliament Square.
