Tom Tunstall is in a "serious" condition in hospital after suffering a broken neck in the fatal British Superbikes crash at Oulton Park.

The 47-year-old rider was rushed to hospital following the "severe and catastrophic" 11-man incident on Monday.

Two riders, Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, tragically lost their lives in the crash during the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race.

Despite the severity of his injury, MSVR has indicated that "a slow but hopefully full recovery is expected" for the rider.

The update comes as a police investigation has been launched into Monday's tragedy at the Cheshire circuit.

The horrific crash occurred at turn one of the race when a rider lost control and skidded on the tarmac, triggering a harrowing pile-up.

One bike even caught fire during the incident that claimed two lives.

According to MSVR's statement: "We can confirm that Tom Tunstall has sustained a broken bone in his neck and is currently under the care of a team of specialists at the Royal Stoke Hospital.

"While his condition is serious, he is stable and receiving the best possible treatment."

The statement continued: "Doctors are closely monitoring his progress and will determine in the coming days whether surgery will be necessary."

"At this time, a slow but hopefully full recovery is expected."

The tragedy has deeply affected the racing community, with survivor Morgan McLaren-Wood writing: "Struggling to find the words for what happened today. Rest in peace, Shane and Owen."

Rider Ben Currie expressed that the loss was "hard to put into words", adding: "Gutted for everyone involved. Two of our finest men lost to the sport we love."

Richardson, a father of two from New Zealand, had posted on Instagram less than 24 hours before the race, speaking about looking forward to the event.

Tragically, Richardson's girlfriend Hannah James, 25, previously lost another boyfriend, Billy Redmayne, in a racing accident nine years ago.
