The American has etched his name into the history books for a second time

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler kept his cool to win the Masters on Sunday for a second time.

The American had gone into the day sitting at the top of the leaderboard and, despite being pursued by Ludvig Aberg, was able to secure the prestigious green jacket.

Scheffler was in stunning form over the course of the day, with the 27-year-old picking up pars on the first two holes.

He then managed a birdie on the third before shooting one over par on the fourth hole of the day.

Scheffler secured another par on holes five and six, with a bogey on the seventh then opening the door to some of his rivals.

He ended the first session strongly, however, with birdies on the eighth and ninth boosting his chances of glory.

From that moment on, it seemed as though there was only ever going to be one winner.

Scheffler started strongly with another birdie on the 10th but then dropped a shot on the 11th.

Perhaps noticing Collin Morikawa going into the water, the American's chip onto the green was too strong and the pressure, at last, seemed to be settling in.

But champions become champions by shrugging it off - and that's exactly what the 27-year-old did.

Scheffler made par on hole 12 and then clocked up another birdie on the 13th to give himself breathing space at the top of the leaderboard.

Despite his rivals also playing some sublime stuff, the American continued to show why he's the highest-ranked player in the world.

He reached 10 under on the 14th hole to move within four shots of glory, with another par then seeing him move one closer.

As glory approached, fans in attendance got behind the 2022 winner - knowing they were witnessing history in the making.

Scheffler, while being roared on, bagged a sensational one under par on the 16th.

Rivals Aberg and Max Homa could only watch on in awe.

Scheffler secured a comfortable par on the penultimate tee to maintain a four-shot lead over Aberg.

And he then wrapped up glory, ending on -11 and an overall score of 68.

Scheffler, in winning the competition, has now joined an elite club of people to win the Masters more than once.
