The world No 1 finished second in both tournaments

Scottie Scheffler has suffered a fresh blow after missing out on RBC Heritage glory on Sunday, with Matt Fitzpatrick passing him in prize money on the PGA Tour for 2026.

Fitzpatrick won a blockbuster play-off to claim glory at Hilton Head Island, with the Englishman producing despite the pressure.

The golfer has banked $3.6million (£2.6m) following his exploits there, with the tournament carrying an overall purse of around $20m (£14m).

Scheffler performed admirably, with the world number one securing $2.1m (£1.5m) after finishing second.

However, per Golfweek, Fitzpatrick has now leapfrogged his rival to become the PGA's highest-earner for the year so far.

His victory at the RBC Heritage came just weeks after he claimed success at the Valspar Championship back in March.

Fitzpatrick has scooped $9.2m (£6.8m) for 2026, with Scheffler sitting second on $8.4 (£6.2m).

Cameron Young and Jacob Bridgeman complete the top four, with the duo taking home $7.7m and $6.7m (£5.6m and £5m) respectively.

Rory McIlroy, who recently fended off competition from both Scheffler and Young to win the Masters, sits fifth.

Collin Morikawa, Akshay Bhatia, Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele and Si Woo Kim are the rest of the best in the top 10.

Scheffler could have been forgiven for feeling frustrated after missing out on the RBC Heritage title.

Speaking afterwards, however, the 29-year-old expressed his delight with his display and suggested it was only his putting that had let him down.

“Yeah, I did some solid stuff," he added.

“I think I had only one bogey over the weekend here, so did a lot of really good things. Would have liked to have seen a few more putts go in, but overall I executed the way I wanted to.

"It was just challenging out there. The wind is swirling all around, and it was hard to make birdies late in the day.

"I think in both weeks I put myself behind the 8-ball going into the weekend and had really nice Saturdays and Sundays in order to get myself into contention.

“On Sunday it’s a shot here or there that makes a difference.

"This was one of those weeks where anytime Fitzy needed something to happen, he made something happen.

“He definitely earned the win, and he just played great golf."

Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, savoured his triumph and suggested that fans had behaved themselves despite them preferring for Scheffler to win.
