West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was carried from the pitch on a stretcher during this afternoon's FA Cup third round clash with Queens Park Rangers at the London Stadium after sustaining a worrying head injury.
The incident occurred in the 39th minute when the Greek centre-back challenged for a corner in the QPR penalty area. His head appeared to connect with a defender's knee as he fell.
Medical staff provided extensive treatment to the 28-year-old on the field before he was carefully placed on a stretcher and transported down the tunnel.
Mavropanos is reported to be conscious following the collision. New signing Pablo Felipe came on as his replacement.
Prior to the collision, the West Ham defender appeared to have been pushed by QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh before his head made contact with a teammate's knee on his way to the ground.
Supporters from both clubs applauded as Mavropanos was taken off the pitch.
The lengthy delay resulted in nine minutes of additional time being added to the first half.
QPR posted a message of support on their social media channels shortly after the incident.

It read: "Into added time after lengthy treatment for West Ham's Mavropanos. We wish him well."
The injury required treatment to what appeared to be either his head or neck.
Crysencio Summerville capitalised on the extended stoppage time, firing past QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh to hand the Hammers a 1-0 advantage at the break.
The fixture represented the first FA Cup meeting between these two London clubs since 1995.

West Ham entered the match in desperate need of a positive result after failing to secure a victory in their previous 10 fixtures.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo had spoken before kick-off about the importance of the competition for his struggling side.
He said: "Things change when you're winning. You recover faster, and you are more happy."
Mavropanos, a 6ft 4in centre-back, began his professional career after being scouted by Arsenal from Greece in 2018.

His time at the Emirates yielded just eight senior appearances, though he developed his game through loan spells at German clubs Nurnberg and Stuttgart.
The latter move became permanent in 2022, where he established himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga.
His performances in Germany convinced West Ham to pay £19million for his services in the summer of 2023.
Since arriving in east London, the defender has featured 79 times for the club, finding the net once.
This campaign has seen him make 14 Premier League appearances as the Hammers battle against relegation.
