29-year-old suffered injuries during the celebrations for Wales' equaliser

A Wales football supporter suffered injuries after plummeting from the stands during Monday night's World Cup qualifier defeat in Brussels.

Scott Rees, 29, tumbled from the upper tier into the lower section at the King Baudouin Stadium as Wales lost 4-3 to Belgium.

The incident occurred amongst 4,500 travelling Welsh supporters who had made the journey to witness Craig Bellamy's first defeat as manager.

Rees was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The fall happened during the second half of the dramatic encounter, which saw Wales battle back from 3-0 down.

Medical staff confirmed Rees sustained a broken small bone in his back from the fall.

He was conscious and speaking when paramedics reached him, according to the Football Association of Wales.

Despite the alarming nature of the incident, Rees has since been discharged from hospital.

Taking to a Wales football fans Facebook group, he reassured concerned supporters that he was "fine" and hoped "everyone had a good night".

The 29-year-old later responded to a FAW fan engagement executive on social media on Tuesday, writing: "Cheers lads, sore this morning mind".

The fall occurred as Wales mounted an extraordinary comeback against the world's eighth-ranked team.

Witnesses reported that Rees tumbled from the upper tier during celebrations when Wales equalised through Brennan Johnson's 70th-minute strike to make it 3-3.

Ian Hamer, who attended the match, told BBC Radio Wales: "Just after Wales scored their third goal there was a loud thud just to our right and huge commotion in the lower tier."

The incident left fellow supporters visibly shaken.

One fan group reported that some were "clearly emotional" and in tears as concern grew for Rees whilst he received treatment.

The FAW issued an official statement confirming: "We can confirm that one male fan fell from the upper to lower tier during the match at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels this evening.

"He was conscious and speaking and has now been taken to hospital for further checks."

Hamer described the immediate response: "Police, stewards, paramedics rushed into that area and three, four rows were cordoned off."

He added that Rees was eventually carried out on a stretcher before being taken away in an ambulance.

Wales defiantly fought back from 3-0 down on the night, with Brennan Johnson heading home the equaliser.

However, they couldn't keep departing Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne at bay, with the veteran smashing the ball home at the far post with just two minutes of normal time remaining to break Welsh hearts.
