The Danish manager leaves Brentford after seven years

Tottenham Hotspur have reached a full agreement with Brentford boss Thomas Frank to become the new head coach following Ange Postecoglou's departure last week.

The 51-year-old will cost the club around £10million to buy out of his current contract at the Bees.

Shortly after sacking the Australian Postecoglou on Friday, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy approached Frank, with the manager immediately keen on the move.

After a weekend of negotiations with both Frank and Brentford, a full agreement was made with an announcement expected imminently.

Frank leaves Brentford after seven years, including a promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

Tottenham’s technical director and fellow compatriot of Frank, Johan Lange, has played a huge role in the manager’s move, with the pair knowing each other for many years.

The duo worked together at Danish side Lyngby.

Both Lange and Frank are said to be huge believers in a data-driven, or ‘Moneyball’, approach that has led Frank to huge success on a shoestring budget at Brentford.

In fact, since taking charge at Brentford in October 2018, the club have never recorded a net loss in the transfer market of £52million, in some cases even making a profit.

Despite this, Frank earned promotion with Brentford in 2021, and has since recorded 13th, ninth, 16th and 10th-place finishes, firmly securing their spot in the middle of the Premier League table.

The former Brondby coach also oversaw moves to the club for the likes of Ivan Toney, David Raya, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa during his time in the dugout.

Toney left the club for a fee of £40million in 2024, representing a £35million profit, whereas Raya was sold for a £27million profit in 2023.

Mbeumo and Wissa both have interest from elsewhere this summer that could provide further profit for the club.

Spurs fans have enjoyed Postecoglou's exciting and risky way of playing football, and Frank will duly deliver the same.

Last year, Brentford scored 66 Premier League goals, more than Tottenham could achieve.

Additionally, his Brentford side have gained somewhat of a 'giant-killers' reputation.

Since their promotion, Brentford have beaten every member of the traditional 'top six' at least once.

The Bees beat Spurs' bitter rivals Arsenal in his first game in the top flight, also winning at Chelsea away before the season was done.

The Bees thrashed Manchester United in their opening game of the following season 4-0.

They have also won away at Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Last season, The Bees finished the year in 10th, and Frank oversaw the club even challenging for Europe at times.

Postecoglou's Tottenham, however, endured a torrid campaign, finishing 17th in the Premier League.

The north London club became the first team in Premier League history to lose 22 games in a league season without getting relegated.

They finished in 17th, however tasted success in the Europa League after beating Manchester United in an unconvincing 1-0 victory.

The trophy, which ended Tottenham's 17-year wait for a trophy, led some fans to feel Postecoglou deserved another season. However, Levy and the Tottenham board disagreed, relieving the Australian of his duties two weeks after the final.

On Saturday last week, Tottenham announced their decision to part ways with the Australian, saying: "Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties."

Postecoglou released a statement, thanking the fans as the "lifeblood of the club" while also saying they will "forever be connected".
