The Real Madrid star has been left out of the Engladn squad ahead of the upcoming international break

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the glaring omission from Thomas Tuchel's squad after the England manager named his 24-man squad ahead of the international break.

It comes amid a tough start to life at Real Madrid following his controversial free transfer from Liverpool this summer.

The right-back was benched for Real's second La Liga game this season while he was also hooked on his Spanish league debut.

There have also been reports that the defender will remain on the bench when Dani Carvajal recovers from injury.

It has been reported that Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso prefers the Spaniard over Alexander-Arnold, who has yet to light up the Bernabeu, though it is,of course, early days.

But the former Liverpool star has suffered a bitter blow on Friday after it emerged that he had been left out of the England squad ahead of next month's fixtures.

Elsewhere, Elliot Anderson was named in the England squad for the first time in his career.

It comes after a strong debut campaign for Nottingham Forest last season while he has began this campaign in form, solidifying his status as a key player at the City Ground.

He is not the only potential debutant after Tottenham defender Djed Spence was also called up to the squad.

There was also a call-up for Jordan Henderson, who has been an ever-present in the squad since Tuchel's appointment last year.

Fans have had their say on the omission of Alexander-Arnold, with one saying: "Harsh but fair decision on Trent, especially considering he's behind Carvajal at Madrid it seems.

"James, Livramento and Spence all seem to be (fairly) ahead in the pecking order at RB.

"Hope Trent gains some form though, he's still definitely an asset going forward when he's at his best."

Another wrote: "When players like Reece James and Djed Spence are available, it would be criminal to have prioritised Trent when he has (with respect) shown absolutely nothing since leaving Liverpool.

"I don't doubt his quality, but you prove your place before entering the England squad, not while you're there."

While a third posted: "Anyone who doubts the fact that TAA is the best English right-back and one of the world's best needs to give their head a wobble. He is both those things and I have no axe to grind here."

England take on Andorra at Wembley on September 6 before travelling to Belgrade to face Serbia on September 9.
