Manchester City star ‘set to decide his new club next week’

Kevin De Bruyne is leaving Manchester City after 10 years and is set to announce his new venture "next week".

The outgoing Manchester City midfielder will reportedly decide where his future lies next week after receiving an offer from the new Serie A champions Napoli.

De Bruyne played his final game at the Etihad earlier this week as he waved goodbye to Manchester City fans.

He will play his last match for City on Sunday when they travel to Fulham to try to confirm their Champions League place.

Manchester City opted against renewing De Bruyne’s contract for next season, meaning the midfielder will leave after a 10-year tenure with the team that saw him win a Champions League and six Premier League titles.

The latest club to come out as an option for the Belgian is the Serie A champions, with Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis mentioning him amid the title celebrations.

"Let us not ask indiscreet questions," he said.

"We are working to create an even stronger and more competitive squad. We have wonderful players right now and will add more of the highest level."

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna, however, said "He's a strong player that we like, but we're not the only ones following him."

According to the Gazzetta Dello Sport, Napoli have already made De Bruyne an offer of a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further season.

The offer means that De Bruyne would have to accept a pay cut from his £300,000-a-week wages at Man City.

The report claims that the midfielder will give Napoli a definitive answer next week, with De Bruyne also considering a more lucrative offer from MLS side Chicago Fire.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Manna has led Napoli’s pursuit of De Bruyne and travelled to meet the Man City man in April, with De Bruyne’s wife Michele Lacroix reported to have then visited Naples to search for apartments.

"I want to finish these two games and then obviously, ultimately, after make a decision, but it's not that easy," De Bruyne said after Man City's FA Cup final defeat last weekend.

"I have to take care of my family. I've got three kids, my wife, it's not an easy process at this time. When you're 20 years old it's easy to make a decision, you can move to another country and it's no problem."

Asked if there are good schools in Naples, De Bruyne replied: "There has been information sought regarding all things. Once I have made my decision, everyone will know. I don't want to be put under pressure."

If the Belgian midfielder does decide to head to Italy, he will be joining his international teammate Romelu Lukaku, who helped win his side the Serie A title with the second goal in their 2-0 win against Cagliari on Friday.
