The England boss recently suggested that his mother finds Jude Bellingham's behaviour 'repulsive'

Thomas Tuchel revealed on Wednesday that his mother, Gabriele Tuchel, finds Jude Bellingham's behaviour on the field 'repulsive' at times.

Those comments have raised eyebrows, especially given Bellingham's obvious quality and importance to the cause.

However, Gabriele has no doubt that Tuchel is the right man to manage England - even if some fans are starting to have concerns.

When the 51-year-old was hired as a replacement for Gareth Southgate, virtually everybody expected England to improve.

With a star-studded squad, and having come so close to silverware on two occasions under Gareth Southgate, many thought Tuchel's magic touch would lead to better performances right away.

So far, however, that hasn't happened.

England won their first two matches under Tuchel, scoring five goals without reply against Albania and Latvia.

Yet the Three Lions were dire against Andorra on Saturday night and even worse on Tuesday evening as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Senegal at the City Ground.

After that fixture, Tuchel openly admitted that his own mother finds Bellingham's behaviour 'repulsive' at times.

The 21-year-old lost his cool in the closing stages of the contest, with Bellingham enraged that his goal was disallowed after Levi Colwill was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up.

Tuchel's decision to openly criticise the Real Madrid star has sparked a backlash, with many fans shocked at the brutality of his comments.

Gabriele, however, has no concerns about her son and is adamant he's the right man for the England job.

Speaking to the Mirror about Tuchel's appointment back in October, she said: "He can do it [guide the country to World Cup glory], I am convinced of that.

"He does everything with such passion, obviously there are so many things that can happen in football. But England have not won a trophy in such a long time. It will be 60 years since you last won in 2026.

"I think it is written in the stars, there is a special alignment, you can do it. I think it was my son's destiny to get this job."

She added: "It is such an honour for Thomas to be given this job.

"I saw that William, the Prince of Wales wished him luck and even the Prime Minister in Parliament.

"I am not sure that would happen if an Englishman were to take on the job as manager of Germany. You could see from the press conference how much this job means to Thomas, it is such an honour for him, and also for us as a family, as his parents, to see him go on this unbelievable journey to Paris, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and now England.

"Football is so multicultural now and this shows that we can cross borders with the game, and it doesn't matter if the boss is English, German or Finnish, as long as he keeps his passion for the game, regardless of nationality.

"England have so many good young players, from different backgrounds and cultures, just like the German national side. For Thomas, it is a great opportunity."

Whether Tuchel can indeed guide England to the trophy they crave most remains to be seen.

It'll also be intriguing to see what Bellingham makes of his manager's comments and how he responds to them as well.
