Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll has pushed back against Hannah Hampton’s cheeky claim that she sabotaged her penalty preparations during the Euro 2025 final shootout.
Two weeks ago in Switzerland, England retained their European crown after winning on penalties.
Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles and Chloe Kelly all converted for the Lionesses, while goalkeeper Hampton emerged as the hero after saving spot-kicks from Mariona Caldentey and Aitana Bonmatí, with Salma Paralluelo also missing.

In a recent interview, Hampton said she had spotted a vital “cheat sheet” containing notes on England’s penalty takers attached to Coll’s water bottle.

According to her, she quietly removed it and threw it into the crowd so the Spanish keeper couldn’t use it.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Hampton recalled: “The Spanish keeper had it (the penalty information) on her bottle, so I thought when she was going in goal, I’d just pick it up and chuck it into the English fans so she can’t have it.
"I don’t ever put it on a bottle because anyone can do that, so I put it on my arm.”

Presenter Sam Matterface was stunned: “Picked up her bottle and threw it?”
Hampton confirmed: “Yeah, it wasn’t hard. When she’s gone in the goal, it’s on its own, isn’t it? It’s in the towel.”
She explained that when Coll returned to collect her bottle, she found a different one and was left looking around in confusion.

“She was walking back to take the penalty and I was walking the other way and she was so confused, and I was just trying not to burst out laughing, being like, ‘I don’t know what’s happening!’” she added.
Matterface summed up the surprise of the moment: “This is happening at the key moment in a penalty shootout for the title of European champions?”
Hampton replied: “Yeah, you’ve got to do something, haven’t you?”
However, Coll has now disputed the version of events.
Taking to X, the Barcelona goalkeeper wrote: “Okay, okay, calm down, calm down. At least if it were true…”
Away from the lighthearted mind games, Hampton has had more good news.
