The Englishman has struggled to get the best from his squad since his appointment

Sean Dyche's position as Nottingham Forest manager faces mounting scrutiny over whether he will remain at the helm beyond this campaign, even should he guide the club to Premier League survival.

The former Burnley boss arrived at the City Ground in October as the third permanent appointment of a turbulent season, inheriting a side sitting two points below the safety line.

His 17 matches in charge have yielded 21 points, lifting Forest three clear of the drop zone.

However, concerns have emerged among the club's hierarchy regarding the quality of displays in several fixtures, according to the Daily Mail.

The heavy defeat at Leeds last Friday proved particularly troubling, with Forest comprehensively outplayed by one of their direct rivals in the battle to avoid the drop.

Such performances have raised questions about Dyche's suitability for the role moving forward.

Despite the respectable points tally, Forest's form at their home ground has deteriorated markedly since a commanding 3-0 victory over Tottenham in December.

The club has failed to secure a single Premier League win at the City Ground in the nine matches following that result, losing five times during this period.

Away from home, Dyche has managed victories only at West Ham and Brentford during January.

The 53-year-old penned terms until June 2027 upon his appointment and earned a nomination for January's manager of the month award following an unbeaten four-match sequence.

Were the campaign to have commenced when Dyche assumed control, Forest would currently occupy 13th position, sitting six points above the relegation places.

Throughout his entire tenure, the manager has been forced to operate without Chris Wood, who finished as the club's leading scorer last term.

Wednesday's home fixture against bottom-placed Wolves carries significant implications for Dyche's future at the club.

Should West Ham overcome Manchester United on Tuesday evening, they will move level on points with Forest, having closed a seven-point gap since their defeat at the London Stadium on 6 January.

A loss to Wolves could see Forest slip into the relegation zone on goal difference, placing Dyche's position under immediate threat.

The circumstances surrounding his appointment were far from straightforward, with Nuno Espirito Santo departing after just three matches despite nearly guiding the club to Champions League qualification the previous season.

Ange Postecoglou's subsequent spell lasted merely 39 days before Dyche's arrival.

The possibility of Nuno steering West Ham to safety while Forest struggle will prove deeply uncomfortable for those making decisions at Trentside.

How tomorrow night's fixture plays out remains to be seen.
