England's goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has disclosed the powerful words that manager Sarina Wiegman delivered before the decisive penalty shootout in tonight's Euro 2025 final

The victory marks a successful defence of their European crown whilst securing redemption against the team that defeated them in the previous World Cup final. Once again, England demonstrated their tournament mettle by overcoming a deficit.

Spain struck first during the opening half, continuing a pattern that has defined England's knockout stage journey.

The Lionesses found themselves trailing yet again, just as they had done in both the quarter-final and semi-final encounters.

Wiegman's side mounted their response to level the score at 1-1 by the end of regular time. Neither team could find a breakthrough during the additional 30 minutes, setting up the dramatic penalty shootout conclusion.

Hampton reflected on the manager's pre-penalty address: "We've dug in for the 120 minutes, done what we've needed to do to keep Spain out. It was just one kick and that was it, we did that this time."

The goalkeeper praised her teammates' unwavering determination throughout the competition, too.

"This team's just unbelievable, incredible," Hampton stated.

"We've shown throughout this tournament we can come back when we go a goal down."

"We've got that grit, we've got English blood in us, we never say die and we just keep going and we did that again today."

Chloe Kelly converted the decisive penalty, creating another memorable moment for the national team.

Hampton confessed her confusion in the heat of the moment: "I'd completely lost track of what's going on. As soon as I saw her run off I thought that's it we've won."

Wiegman, meanwhile, struggled to process the achievement in the immediate aftermath.
