The streaming platform DAZN stands to pocket more than £10 million after agreeing to release Anthony Joshua from his exclusive broadcasting agreement for a single bout against Jake Paul on Netflix.
The British former two-time heavyweight champion will face the YouTube personality turned professional boxer on 19 December at Miami's Kaseya Center.
The surprise announcement came Monday afternoon, revealing that the contest will be exclusively broadcast on Netflix to audiences worldwide.
Both fighters are set to receive equal shares of a substantial £140 million purse for the eight-round encounter, marking Joshua's return to the ring following a 14-month absence since his defeat to Daniel Dubois.
Anthony Joshua will face Jake Paul in Miami in December | REUTERSJoshua's arrangement with DAZN dates back to June 2022, when promoter Eddie Hearn secured a five-year agreement worth £100 million for the British heavyweight.
The deal extended beyond financial compensation, granting Joshua positions as shareholder, special advisor and brand ambassador with the streaming service.
Despite this comprehensive partnership, DAZN has permitted Joshua's temporary departure for the Netflix event.
Whilst the platform declined to specify precise figures, sources indicate their compensation exceeds £10 million - a sum surpassing many world champions' highest career earnings.
The Miami showdown will feature eight three-minute rounds with 10-ounce gloves, contested at a 245-pound weight limit.

DAZN's leadership views the arrangement as strategically advantageous, anticipating that Joshua's appearance on Netflix's global platform will amplify his international profile before his scheduled return to their service in 2026.
The streaming company maintains a flexible approach towards their contracted fighters when mutually beneficial opportunities arise.
Joshua expressed gratitude for DAZN's cooperation through social media on Monday evening.
"Shoutout @DAZNboxing for letting me take this opportunity," he posted on X, adding "I'll be back on their platform in 2026" with a salute emoji.
This marks the second such collaboration between the rival streaming services, following Katie Taylor's trilogy match against Amanda Serrano broadcast on Netflix in July.
The weight requirements present particular challenges for both competitors.
Jake Paul is a confident he'll beat Anthony Joshua | GETTYJoshua has tipped the scales above 250 pounds in his previous five outings, whilst Paul weighed approximately 200 pounds for his most recent contest in June.
This arrangement between streaming platforms reflects an evolving landscape in boxing broadcasting rights.

DAZN's willingness to facilitate such deals demonstrates their confidence that short-term financial gains and enhanced fighter profiles ultimately benefit their long-term strategic position.
The Miami venue will host what represents Joshua's first competitive action in over a year, as the 36-year-old seeks to rebuild momentum following his loss to Dubois in September 2024.
