The problems continue for Russell Martin at Rangers, despite only being hired this summer

Rangers forward Hamza Igamane refused to come off the bench during the club’s 1-1 draw against St Mirren as Russell Martin continues to look for his first win in charge of the Scottish giants.

The Scottish side had to find a late equaliser as they trailed until the 78th minute when Findlay Curtis saved the match.

The Glaswegian outfit were put behind after Jonah Ayunga’s opener came just 30 minutes into the game. The draw means the team has taken just three points from three matches, as boos rang out at full-time time with Martin leading Rangers to their worst domestic start in 36 years.

To compound the manager’s misery, he later revealed that Igamane point-blank refused to come as the team was trailing. He revealed: “Hamza told me he was injured. So, we had a bid for Hamza this week, we rejected it, and all was fine.

"He trained fine yesterday, warmed up fine, I turned around to him at 60 minutes because I wanted two strikers on the pitch - that's why Gass [Gassama] Danny [Danilo]- ended up there, and Hamza told me he is injured."

He was then questioned on whether he felt Igamane was 'effectively refusing to play', Martin remarked: "I don't know. I have to trust him, but we'll see."

Igamane’s status at the Ibrox is still questionable as the striker looks for a move in the transfer window.

Martin revealed there isn’t much he can do to combat the issue with the window still open, adding: “The issue is that the transfer window is still open and there are people with one eye out and one eye in.
