Alex Iwobi has opened up on Snapchat

Fulham's media department has instructed midfielder Alex Iwobi to cease publishing backstage content on his Snapchat account, warning of financial penalties should he persist with dressing room recordings.

The 29-year-old Nigerian international disclosed the prohibition through his own social media platform, revealing that club officials had raised objections to his posts.

Iwobi explained in a Snapchat video: "For those that are wondering why I haven't been snapping BTS in the changing room, one person in the media team has been saying I haven't been catching the right stuff."

He further stated: "So, there's no more BTS. They also said I might get fined if I continue to do so, they're trying to ban snap in our changing room."

The former Arsenal player has been documenting life at Craven Cottage since joining from Everton in 2023, continuing a practice he began during his four-year stint on Merseyside.

His social media offerings have proved extremely popular with supporters, showcasing candid moments including vocal performances alongside ex-Everton colleague Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Other memorable clips featured Fulham players Adama Traore and Calvin Bassey engaged in friendly grappling within the team's private quarters.

The midfielder acknowledged supporters' disappointment, stating: "That's why I ain't been snapping BTS, it's a shame, I know you guys enjoy seeing what my team-mates are like behind the scenes. But, I have to respect the rules."

The absence of Iwobi's content has left supporters questioning the sudden disappearance of their window into Fulham's dressing room atmosphere.

Professional footballers increasingly utilise social media platforms to connect with supporters, offering unprecedented access to their daily routines and team interactions.

Iwobi's Snapchat rivalry with Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina, his childhood friend and former schoolmate, exemplified this trend when their clubs met in February.

Following Fulham's victories over Forest, Iwobi recalled: "It became a Snapchat derby. Especially because me and Ola grew up together. We went to the same school and grew up on the same road."

He added: "I'm just happy we beat Forest home and away. Ola messaged me saying, 'Alex, don't even entertain or mention my name.' I was like, 'Bro, don't worry, I'll spare you, but I'll let you know we won'."

Whilst Fulham's media team cited concerns about "catching the right stuff", the decision removes a popular connection point between players and supporters in an era of increasing digital engagement.
