Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new head coach.

The former Burnley and Everton manager will take over at the City Ground after signing an 18-month deal.

He succeeds Ange Postecoglou, who was brutally sacked just 20 minutes after a 3-0 loss to Chelsea at the weekend.

The Australian lasted just 39 days in charge of Forest and did not secure a win in that time.

The 54-year-old will bring long-term staff Ian Woan and Steve Stone as part of his coaching crew, and will be ready for the club's Europa League clash with Porto at the City Ground on Thursday.

Postecoglou was axed after failing to win in any of his first eight fixtures in charge of Forest, who now sit in the relegation zone.

Forest said in a club statement: "Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Head Coach, following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos.

"'A respected and experienced Premier League manager, Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the Club through its next chapter.

"Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces —qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the Club’s footballing identity.

"As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. With his character, tactical acumen and manmanagement skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions."

Following a falling out with Evangelos Marinakis ahead of the new season, Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed just three games into the campaign, after bringing Forest back to Europe with an incredible season last year.

The club then turned to Postecoglou, but his time at Forest was short, so short his reign is now the shortest of any Premier league manager in history.

Before his sacking Postecoglou said: "I guess from my perspective, I just don't fit. Not here. Just in general.

"If you look at it through the prism of: I'm a failed manager who is lucky to get this job - I know you're smirking at me and that's what's being said and I can find the print where that's being said - then of course it looks like this manager is under pressure.

"I took over Spurs, who finished eighth. No European football. Massive club who can't have two years without European football. We finished fifth in my first year. And every time Harry Kane scores a goal, I wish he'd just stayed one more year. It would have been handy to have him after finishing fifth."
