The Sweden international's bombshell statement on Tuesday night hasn't gone down well with fans

Fans want Alexander Isak to rot in the Newcastle reserves after the 25-year-old went public with his desire to leave the club on Tuesday.

The Sweden international is a top transfer target for Arne Slot's Liverpool and is hellbent on moving to Anfield before the summer window shuts on September 1.

Last night, Isak was named in the PFA Team of the Season following his exploits in the 2024/25 campaign.

"First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.

"I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn't feel right to be there.

"I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

"The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

"When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself."

Football fans have, however, taken issue with Isak's public statement and called on Newcastle to put the striker in the reserves for the current season.

"Until Alexander Isak puts in a transfer request Newcastle United should make him rot in the reserves and train alone," said one X user.

"Until it costs him and his agent a lot of money by putting that request in do not let him go anywhere.

"It’s time for this ridiculous player power to end."

A second fumed: "He should pray Newcastle changes its mind and releases him otherwise he's gonna rot from the reserves."

Another said: "On a real, Newcastle need to take the hit and let isak rot away in the reserves, his behaviour is shocking."

A fourth user said: "Statement has backfired on Isak.Let him rot in the reserves, stinking attitude and the disrespect shown to his employers is nothing short of disgraceful."

A fifth opined: "If Newcastle have any pride Isak will rot in [the] reserves."

And a sixth chimed in with: "That’s Isak stuck in the reserves all year, can’t come back, no one will pay a fair price with this rubbish coming from the lad."

Newcastle wasted no time in responding to Isak.

They remain adamant that their talisman isn't for sale and insist they look forward to welcoming Isak back when he's ready.

"We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening," they said in a statement.

"We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

"We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.

"As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.
