The young defender emerged as a key performer for Bournemouth during the previous campaign, contributing two goals and six assists across 38 Premier League matches.
His impressive displays had attracted Liverpool's attention for an extended period.
The transfer carries additional significance given the connection between Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Kerkez.
LATEST SPORTS NEWS:
Hughes, who moved to Anfield from Bournemouth last summer, was responsible for bringing the left-back to the south coast club from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.
Bournemouth had already prepared for Kerkez's departure by recruiting French left-back Adrien Truffert from Rennes earlier this month. The Cherries paid an initial £10.1m for Truffert in a deal that could increase to £14.3m.
Liverpool's summer recruitment drive represents a substantial investment in Slot's vision for the club.

The acquisition of Frimpong for £29.5m brought pace and versatility to the right flank, whilst the potential British-record signing of Wirtz for up to £116m secured one of Europe's most coveted attacking talents.
The addition of Valencia goalkeeper Mamardashvili, whose £29m transfer was agreed last August, will be finalised when he officially joins on July 1.
With Kerkez's £40m arrival, Liverpool's total outlay has surpassed £200m, demonstrating the club's commitment to maintaining their position at the summit of English football under their Dutch head coach.
