The Arsenal manager was speaking ahead of the clash with Manchester United

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed he is "super excited" for the campaign ahead of the Gunners' first game against Manchester United.

The club has not won a major trophy since 2020, and Arteta is set on bringing silverware back to North London this season.


Arsenal came second last season, 10 points behind Liverpool, and are looking to start the season strong with a run of six tough games.

Arteta has a lot of enthusiasm heading into the season, as he praised the squad: "The mood in the place, the enthusiam. The will now to win, it drives my energy."

Many have been hoping that Arsenal will bring some more players in during the remaining period of the transfer window, but the 43-year-old kept his cards closed to his chest when asked.

"I will leave that to Andrea," he stated, keeping his answer short and brief.

The Gunners facing the Red Devils in their opening game of the season is a dream come true for many fans, who get to see two of the biggest clubs face off on the first weekend of the season.

The magnitude of the game is not lost on Arteta, who remembered them fondly from his playing days.

"It's history, it's the clashes when I was younger as well playing for both teams and it created something special in those games," he smiled.

Arsenal have made two big additions to their team with Viktor Gyokeres finally moving to North London after a transfer saga, as well as Martin Zubimendi - who arrived from Real Sociedad.

Arteta is pleased with both captures.

On Gyokeres, he stated: "His adaptation in the team has been very very good. Yeah, he's getting better and better every day. It's true he hasn't trained much with us, but let's see what he does on Sunday."

And, when quizzed on Zubimendi, he added: "Yes he had a great integration a very big impact and he will be fit."

Leandro Trossard was an injury concern coming into the game, but Arteta has confirmed he should be available for the match on Sunday, should he complete training,

"Yeah I think he's much better, I think he will be able to train again tomorrow and if that's the case, he will be fit," he said.

Arsenal have been so close for so many seasons but have not been able to get over the finish line to win a trophy, but Arteta still has full faith in his team.

Arsenal will start their season in enemy territory as they head to Old Trafford and aim to finally get a Premier League-winning season underway.
