Mats Hummels’ ex-wife has hit out at the footballer as she claims their seven-year-old son was unaware of his father’s farewell match for Borussia Dortmund.
Hummels left Dortmund at the end of the 2023-2024 season, but returned for a farewell match with the club on Sunday.
Over 80,000 fans were in attendance for the friendly between Dortmund and Juventus at the Signal Iduna Park.

His ex-wife, Cathy Hummels, shared a photo of their son on social media, with the caption: “Someone stole my cap and read about Dad's farewell in the newspaper. So he knows what it was like”.

Hummels captained the Bundesliga side for the first 18 minutes of the match, which officially marked the end of his professional career.
The 36-year-old was cheered on by his 26-year-old girlfriend Nicola Canvanis, but his ex-wife and son were nowhere to be seen.

The former defender made 508 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions.
Cathy confirmed in a follow-up message that she was on holiday with her son and was unaware of the farewell match.
She said: “To clarify: We are not intentionally missing Mats Hummels’ final game. I gave my son an extra newspaper so he can read everything,

Hummels won numerous trophies during his career including the 2014 World Cup with Germany and six Bundesliga titles.
In addition to spells with Dortmund, he also turned out for European giants such as Roma and Bayern Munich throughout his career.
