Wilfried Nancy has suffered a shocking start to life as Celtic manager after four defeats in a row

Martin O'Neill has been backed to return as Celtic manager - barely two weeks after stepping down as interim boss.

Football pundits Stan Collymore and Alan Brazil have demanded the Bhoys dismiss Wilfried Nancy following a catastrophic start to his tenure at Parkhead.

The French manager has overseen four successive defeats since taking charge on 3 December, a run that marks the club's worst sequence of results since 1978.

Wednesday evening's 2-1 loss at Dundee United extended the dismal streak, prompting both former professionals to call for Nancy's immediate departure.

Collymore, who previously played under Martin O'Neill at Leicester City, and talkSPORT presenter Brazil have urged the Scottish giants to recall the 73-year-old Northern Irishman who departed the club just over a fortnight ago.

Collymore took to social media platform X to outline his proposed remedy for the crisis engulfing the Glasgow club.

"Wilfried has to go. I say that with a genuine sadness and wouldn't be surprised if he pops up in 5 years successful elsewhere," the former striker wrote.

He emphasised that Celtic's standards demand nothing less than consistent victory, stating: "Celtic Football Club is about winning then winning with style then a swagger on top. 4 games losing is accepted at almost every club bar a handful and Celtic is one."

Collymore advocated for O'Neill's return as a "comforting rescue remedy" through to the campaign's conclusion, whilst acknowledging the club must ultimately identify a longer-term appointment capable of restoring their winning culture over three to five years.

Brazil, speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday morning, expressed particular exasperation at Nancy's post-match assessment following the Dundee United defeat.

"Do I want to see a change at Celtic? Yes, I do," the former Scotland international declared. "I would have another manager, I don't think he realises what it's about... how can you say we're on the right track?!"

When co-host Gabby Agbonlahor suggested Nancy's comments might stem from language difficulties, Brazil dismissed the notion outright: "I'm sick of that, I'm sick and tired of excuses."

O'Neill himself revealed on talkSPORT after his departure that he would have remained had the club requested it: "If they had asked me to stay on, I would have done so."

O'Neill's interim spell at Parkhead proved remarkably successful, with the three-time Scottish Premiership winner securing seven victories from eight matches after replacing Brendan Rodgers in October.

Nancy arrived from Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Scottish giants.

Celtic currently occupy second position in the Premiership table, trailing leaders Hearts by six points ahead of Sunday's home fixture against Aberdeen.

Despite the turbulent start, reports indicate the club hierarchy intend to back their new manager in the January transfer window, with senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano suggesting suitable reinforcements will be pursued.

Brazil conceded Nancy might have been appropriate at season's end, allowing time to implement his methods, but questioned the timing of his appointment.
