Manchester United have released a statement after 'appalling' scenes in Liverpool where a car collided with a number of people during the club's title parade on Monday.
The city of Liverpool has been rocked after several people were hit by a car as fans made their way to celebrate the club's Premier League title.
Merseyside Police have confirmed to GB News that a 53-year-old white British male was detained at the scene.
Eyewitnesses told GB News Liverpool Lime Street station has been shut and "[there were] tonnes of police and ambulance came rushing in, it was mad."
Emergency services at an incident involving a car and supportersReutersUnited, traditionally one of Liverpool's biggest rivals, have posted to social media in response to the shocking events.
They wrote: "Our thoughts are with @LFC and the city of Liverpool after today’s awful incident."
It came in response to Liverpool's own statement on the incident, which read: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.
"We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."
The city of Liverpool was teeming with fans as the club planned an open-top bus parade through the streets.
Fans celebrated alongside Liverpool players and coaches on the bus, who won the Premier League this season with the trophy on show.
The city was a sea of red as flares were let off and Liverpool fans wearing the club's colours took over.

But the scenes turned from jubilation to horror in the blink of an eye after a car drove down Water Street - directly adjacent to the bus parade's route - where the streets were packed with people.
Several pedestrians were hit by the car before coming to a halt with police managing to detain someone from within the vehicle.
An eyewitness told GB News: "I saw a car ram through people and pedestrians then started banging on the car like 'what are you doing?'
"Then the driver reversed and sped up forward and mowed down more people as pedestrians, police and ambulances started chasing after the car.
"It happened five feet away from me, I’m so grateful I managed to avoid it, terrifying to think what could have happened."

The aftermath of the scene Reuters Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote on social media: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.
"I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate."
