The Red Devils managed to sell to more of their assets on deadline day

Manchester United have confirmed the departures of striker Rasmus Hojlund and winger Antony on transfer deadline day, with the club set to record extraordinary losses of almost £100million on the pair.

Danish forward Hojlund departed for Napoli on a season-long loan arrangement with a view to make it permanent, while Brazilian Antony has secured a permanent switch to Real Betis for £21.6million.

Napoli have agreed to pay £5.2million to take Hojlund on loan for the remainder of the campaign. The Italian champions will be obligated to complete a £38million permanent transfer next summer.

The 22-year-old Denmark international hasn't featured in any matchday squad across United's four competitive fixtures this season.

Antony's move to Betis comprises a £19million base fee plus £2.5million in potential add-ons. The agreement includes a 50 per cent sell-on clause, with the 25-year-old waiving any compensation payment.

The Brazilian impressed during his loan spell at the Spanish side last season, netting nine goals across 26 appearances and contributing to their Conference League final appearance.

Both players arrived at Old Trafford for substantial fees but failed to justify their price tags.

Their exits form part of manager Ruben Amorim's extensive squad overhaul, which has seen the Portuguese invest £200million in new attacking reinforcements.

United initially paid £64million for Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023, with potential add-ons of £8million.

The striker managed 26 goals across 95 appearances but endured a 21-match scoring drought last term.

His total of four Premier League goals last campaign proved insufficient to convince Amorim of his worth, particularly with the arrival of Benjamin Sesko worth an initial £66million.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Antony became United's second-costliest acquisition when he arrived from Ajax for £81.3million in 2022.

The winger mustered up just five Premier League goals and three assists across 62 appearances.

Following his initial three-game scoring streak, Antony netted only twice more in 59 subsequent league matches before his Betis loan.

The sale of both means the Red Devils will record an extraordinary loss of £88.5million, should the Hojlund deal be made permanent.

Amorim's clearout extends beyond these two departures. Academy product Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan, whilst Alejandro Garnacho was sold to Chelsea for approximately £40million.

Antony was among five players excluded from first-team training during pre-season due to their desire to leave, alongside Garnacho, Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

Dutch left-back Malacia is the only player who failed to garner interest for a move away, with Sancho expected to complete a loan move to Aston Villa today.
