Manchester United youngster Chido Obi has come under fire on social media after footage appeared to show the teenage striker shaking an FA official’s hand after taking it out from under his shorts.
The awkward moment emerged following United’s 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City in Thursday night’s FA Youth Cup final, with clips from the medal presentation quickly spreading online.
Supporters were left stunned after the incident circulated on X, formerly Twitter, where users mocked the highly-rated forward over what many described as a “disrespectful” interaction during the post-match ceremony.
One fan wrote: “Surely he could have taken his hand out first.”

The footage appeared to show Obi greeting an FA representative, having just taken his hand out of his shorts, before collecting his runners-up medal.
Others, however, defended the 18-year-old, insisting the incident had been blown out of proportion and was simply an unfortunate split-second moment captured on camera.
One user said: “People are desperate to be offended these days.”

Another added: “He’s a teenager who’s just lost a cup final. Calm down.”
The reaction came after Manchester United’s youngsters suffered heartbreak against City in a dramatic all-Manchester final at the Joie Stadium.
City secured a 2-1 victory thanks to a late strike from Reigan Heskey, son of former England striker Emile Heskey, who netted the winner in the closing stages of the contest.
Floyd Samba had earlier opened the scoring for City with a superb free-kick before United defender Godwill Kukonki quickly equalised with a powerful header.
The result handed City their fifth FA Youth Cup triumph and sparked jubilant celebrations in front of senior manager Pep Guardiola, who watched on from the stands.
The evening was already surrounded by controversy before kick-off after United coach Darren Fletcher criticised both City and the FA over the organisation of the final.
Fletcher accused City of turning the occasion into a “parade” after the post-match celebrations featured fireworks and individual walkouts for players and coaching staff.

Obi remains one of the brightest prospects in United’s academy setup and has enjoyed a rapid rise since arriving from Arsenal, with the Denmark youth international already making senior appearances for Ruben Amorim’s side.
But despite his reputation as one of Europe’s top young talents, it is his unusual moment during the medal ceremony that has now gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
