The two giants will do battle at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday

Manchester United have launched an internal investigation in order to find the 'mole' at Old Trafford who leaked their starting XI for last weekend's impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

The Red Devils' tactics were leaked prior to the clash, with the fallen giants eventually emerging victorious following goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu in the second half.

According to The Sun, United chiefs were far from impressed at Michael Carrick's team leaking out before kick-off.

And they're now investigating behind the scenes ahead of Sunday's crunch showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Team leaks have been a recurring problem at the club in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement back in 2013.

They were particularly frequent during the eras of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who were sacked in 2018 and 2021 respectively.

Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim also found their tactics being leaked at times during their own respective reigns, despite both men priding themselves on improving the culture at the club.

Carrick is now preparing for Sunday's match in north London, with United aiming to build on their impressive victory over Pep Guardiola's side last time out.

Before a ball was kicked, nobody knew what to expect.

But United were the better team from start to finish, with Mbeumo and Dorgu scoring on a day when Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount all saw goals disallowed.

The Red Devils faced Arsenal on the first day of the season back in August.

They performed well enough that day but ended up losing, with a goal from Riccardo Calafiori enough for the Gunners to leave with all three points.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's contest, meanwhile, Carrick said his players were brimming with confidence as they prepare for one of their biggest matches of the campaign.

"There's a lot of confidence, there's a lot of good feeling within the group. But measured with that. We know what's coming and we've got to be ready for that," he said.

Carrick also lavished praise on youngster Kobbie Mainoo, with the 20-year-old shining against City after previously being overlooked by Amorim during the Portuguese's stint in the dugout.

"I've really enjoyed working with Kobbie. I've known him since he was young, I think I started working with him a little bit when he was 13 or 14 years old when I was going through my badges," he said.

"This club needs young players coming through and being the foundation, to understand what it means, not just for the players for the club and supporters.

"It's something we need to grasp and keep building on. Kobbie is a prime example, to have come through so quickly and have the rapid rise and impact those big games at such a young age shows an awful lot of quality in terms of the character to be able to handle it.

"Part of a career is a few ups and downs and sometimes it goes on different trajectories but we saw last week what he can bring.

"He is quite straight-faced but you could see the way he played and expressed himself he was enjoying himself. To see him like that was great."
