Manchester United were branded 'embarrassing' by their own fans as no one turned up to their bus parade

Manchester United have sparked viral outrage amongst supporters after four first-team players took part in an open-top bus parade through Kuala Lumpur during their post-season Asia tour.

Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven were filmed on the top deck of a double-decker bus as the 'Glory, Glory Man United' chant played from a stereo system.

The footage has gone viral on social media, with fans expressing disbelief at the spectacle following United's disappointing 15th-place Premier League finish.

The parade took place just hours before the club's humiliating defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars.

United suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Wednesday evening, just hours after the controversial parade.

Maung Maung Lwin scored the winner with 71 minutes played, adding further embarrassment to an already disastrous evening for Ruben Amorim's side.

The defeat came despite Amorim fielding a strong team that featured many players who started regularly in the Premier League and Europa League during the 2024-25 season.

The loss marked another evening to forget for United, who are currently on a two-game tour of Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong with a 32-man travelling squad.

Fans on social media reacted with fury to the viral footage of the parade. One supporter said: "Just when you thought this season couldn't get any worse," whilst another wrote: "Zirkzee looks so embarrassed."

A third commented: "The barrel is now being scraped. What's going to be next? A festival of failure?"

A fourth described it as: "This is the most shameless thing I've ever seen in my life."

Another fan added: "Genuinely baffles me how the club can approve something like this. It's an absolute PR disaster. It's disgusting to watch as a fan and must be incredibly embarrassing for the players and manager."

Chief executive Omar Berrada defended the controversial Asia tour ahead of Wednesday's match, stating the club's commitment to global supporters.

He said: "We appreciate the amazing level of support that Manchester United enjoys around the world and this summer we are delighted to deliver a schedule that provides our fans in Asia, Scandinavia and the United States the opportunity to connect with the club and watch the men's first team play live in local settings."

Berrada added: "Importantly, Tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue which help make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch."

According to widespread reports, United will earn around £8 million for taking part in the tour.

Following their Asia trip, United will begin pre-season preparations with a July friendly against Leeds in Sweden before commencing a tour of the United States featuring three games as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
