Benjamin Sesko has been left out of his manager's starting XI for today's match

Manchester United supporters have been left furious following Ruben Amorim's decision to bench Benjamin Sesko for today's crunch Premier League showdown against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Slovenia international joined from RB Leipzig back in the summer and initially took some time to adjust to life in England.

Sesko has, however, shown signs of improvement recently - having netted in matches against Brentford and Sunderland prior to the recent international break.

Despite that, Amorim has opted to leave the forward out of his starting XI for today's crunch fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.

And fans on social media have been left furious, with many criticising the 40-year-old for his team selection.

"Ah nice let's bench the striker who's got two in two," were the words of one user.

A second hit out by saying: "Why has he benched Sesko. Amorim is so clueless it's unreal."

Another wrote: "Benched a striker who's scored two in his last two games." Their post was also accompanied with a GIF of Sesko wagging his finger.

A fourth raged: "Biggest game of the season and our expensive striker is on the bench? Common Amorim!"

And a fifth made their feelings clear by writing: "No Sesko. Is Amorim taking the p**s?"

United are going with their typical 3-4-3 formation as they look to consign Liverpool to a fourth defeat in a row.

Senne Lammens, who impressed on his debut against Sunderland, gets the nod in goal ahead of Turkey shot-stopper Altay Bayindir.

Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw make up their back three, with Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo as wing-backs.

In midfield, Casemiro partners up with Bruno Fernandes.

And with Sesko absent from the starting XI, the Red Devils have gone with a front three of Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha.

Meanwhile, during the recent international break, United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe suggested that Amorim would get three years to prove himself at Old Trafford.

Yet Red Devils legend Roy Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, is unsure if that will actually happen.

"I'm not so sure about that," he said.

"It's all well and good getting the backing off the board, but results have to improve. You hope, of course, any manager is given time.

"Whether he will get three years to play with depends how they do over the next few months.

"They have picked up a little bit - with the new attacking players they look more of a goal threat.

"But the big test is games like today. Are they going to show their quality or are they going to grind a result out?

"There are still question marks away from home.

"Yeah, they have picked up, but coming to Liverpool is a huge test and there are still huge questions marks over this group."

United haven't beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 2016.

Wayne Rooney netted the winner on that occasion, with the club managed by Louis van Gaal at the time.
