Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and television presenter Maya Jama have been left "devastated" after burglars targeted their £4 million Cheshire residence on Wednesday evening.

The break-in at the couple's Alderley Edge property occurred while both were away from home, with Dias attending City's Champions League fixture against Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium and Jama filming Love Island All Stars in South Africa.

The 28-year-old Portuguese international, currently sidelined with a thigh injury, watched his teammates secure a 2-0 victory from the stands before returning to discover intruders had ransacked the mansion.

Dias discovered the property had been broken into shortly after 11pm and immediately contacted emergency services.

Cheshire Police confirmed they received reports of the burglary at approximately 11.10pm on Wednesday 28 January, with officers attending the scene to find that entry had been gained and multiple items taken.

The raiders made off with jewellery, electronic devices and designer clothing from the 6,300 square foot property.

A source close to the couple told The Sun: "They are devastated.

"The house is the first they have moved into as a couple and is very special to them.

"Thankfully, neither was at home, but they are very upset that their personal space has been invaded."

The couple began dating in 2024 after meeting at the MTV European Music Awards in Manchester that November, publicly confirming their relationship in April 2025.

They relocated to the Alderley Edge mansion shortly before Christmas, marking their first shared home after previously living separately, with Dias based in Manchester city centre and Jama in London.

The source added: "They love the house because it is tucked away down a very quiet street with no passing traffic."

Despite sophisticated security measures including a zoned alarm system, CCTV cameras and electric gates, along with a private security firm conducting random inspections, the intruders successfully gained entry.

Manchester City have pledged their full backing to the centre-back following the incident.

Assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders addressed the situation at Friday's press conference, stating: "We try to support him as a club of course.

"I didn't speak with him personally but Ruben will come back Monday to team training. These are the things you don't want to happen. We will support him and let's see how it goes from there."

The raid follows a pattern of so-called "away day" burglaries targeting footballers during matches, with previous victims including Dias's current teammate Jack Grealish, now on loan at Everton, and former City players Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.
