The Egypt superstar is hoping to start for the first time since New Year's Day

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah admits Jurgen Klopp's side will have a 'great chance' of winning the Premier League if they beat Manchester City.

Salah has also hailed City as an 'unbelievable team' and explained why he enjoys playing against the Etihad club so much.

Liverpool were knocked off top spot in the table by Arsenal on Saturday when the Gunners left it late to beat Brentford 2-1 at the Emirates.

But many believe the winner of Sunday's crunch game between the Reds and City at Anfield will go on to win the title in May.

The two clubs have been embroiled in a rivalry at the top of English football for several years, with City dominating in terms of title wins.

They have won three on the spin since Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for a title in 2020.

But Liverpool have often pushed City to the final day and Salah knows the importance of today's game, insisting victory would give their chances a huge boost.

The Egyptian told Sky Sports: "They are decisive games, if I am being honest.

"There have been a few years where they have won the league by one point, so when we lost at the Etihad, that was a game where they won the league.

"It's always a decisive game and I think if we win the next game, we have a great chance to win the title. But I think we have to focus on what we can do and we go from there.

"That game is very important to give us a push that you want against Man City. The difference would then be three or four points against you, City and Arsenal.

"So it's still a long way to go. Also in the Europa League, in the semi-finals or final you will face some very good teams..."

Salah has often been the match-winner against City and says he likes the freedom he gets down the right against a less defensive team.

But he knows the challenge in hand against a side who are aiming to become the first team to win four successive Premier League titles.

Asked why he enjoys playing City so much, Salah said: "I just feel myself in that game, in the big games you just want to play and enjoy.

"I usually just have one defender against me, not two or three. The game is open and I just love the games where I can feel myself. The big players have to step up in the big games and show quality.

"It [City] is an unbelievable team and an unbelievable coach. They have dominated the league for a few years and we have always fought with them.

"You go to the game and you just feel like it's a six points game, not just a three points game.

"We have a good chance, we play at home, everybody will be excited, the atmosphere will be unbelievable as usual. We just have to focus on our game and try to win the game."

Not many people expected a title challenge for Liverpool this season after a host of big-name departures last summer.

But Salah says he could sense a successful campaign was on the horizon, with a quadruple still a possibility.

He said: "To be fair, I am not really surprised. In the beginning of the season and pre-season we could see the quality that we have.

"Of course, we miss a lot of good players but I could see the players the club bought were unbelievable and want to achieve something.

"I could see the quality in pre-season and I was really, really positive about it and I thought: we are going to win something."
