The city of Liverpool has lowered their flag to half-mast following the tragic death of Liverpool FC star Diogo Jota.
Jota and his brother André Silva have died in a car crash in Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning. The 28-year-old footballer and his 25-year-old brother were killed when their vehicle left the road and caught fire.
Spanish police confirmed the accident was caused by a tyre blow out whilst the car was overtaking another vehicle. The Guardia Civil reported that the car subsequently left the road before catching fire.
The fatal crash has sent shockwaves through Liverpool and the wider football community, with tributes pouring in for the Portuguese international and his younger brother.

The tragedy occurred just a fortnight after Jota's wedding to Rute Cardoso on 22 June. The couple had three children together, with their youngest born in November 2024.
Liverpool Football Club has expressed devastation at what they described as an "unimaginable loss". The club immediately lowered their Union Flag to half mast as a mark of respect for the player and his brother.
The accident has prompted an outpouring of grief from the football community and the city of Liverpool. Tributes have flooded in for the 28-year-old forward, who had become a key player for the Reds since joining the club.
Liverpool City Council has joined the tributes, lowering the flag at Liverpool Town Hall to half mast. In an official statement released this morning, the council said: "The flag at Liverpool Town Hall has been lowered to half mast following the death of Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva."

The gesture reflects the profound impact of the loss on the city, where Jota had become a beloved figure since joining Liverpool FC.
Condolences have come in from all over the globe as the world reacts to the tragic news.
His International team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute to his friend.
Writing on X, the 40-year-old shared a black and white image of his friend and said: "It doesn't make sense.
"Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married.
