Liverpool suffered a fourth straight Premier League defeat in a row after a 3-2 loss to Brentford

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson delivered a scathing assessment following the club's 3-2 defeat at Brentford, admitting the team had "no structure" and failed to execute their gameplan in their fourth consecutive Premier League loss.

The Scotland international, who entered as a substitute after the hour mark, provided an unflinching evaluation of the performance, stating the team were "nowhere near good enough" throughout the match.

Speaking to LFC TV after the final whistle, Robertson acknowledged that whilst Brentford implemented their tactical approach flawlessly, Liverpool completely abandoned theirs.

His frank admission highlighted fundamental failures in the team's approach, particularly their inability to compete for second balls and their lack of fight in crucial moments - a trait he noted had occurred just once or twice during his nine seasons at the club.

The match unfolded disastrously for Liverpool from the outset, with Dango Ouattara capitalising on a Brentford long throw to score after just five minutes.

Kevin Schade extended the hosts' advantage before half-time, racing through to convert Mikkel Damsgaard's through-ball.

Milos Kerkez offered Liverpool brief hope by netting his first goal for the club in first-half stoppage time, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

However, the Hungarian's difficult start at Anfield continued as Arne Slot withdrew him shortly after the hour, bringing on Robertson.

By that stage, Igor Thiago had already restored Brentford's two-goal cushion from the penalty spot.

Mohamed Salah's late strike made it 3-2 and nearly sparked an unlikely comeback, but Liverpool couldn't find an equaliser, extending their miserable run to five defeats from their last six matches across all competitions.

Robertson's extensive post-match analysis centred on Liverpool's inability to match Brentford's physicality and tactical discipline, particularly in competing for loose balls.

"We didn't do enough off the ball," he explained. "It felt to me like we were just a yard off it in terms of that. They picked up so many second balls, and then the balls in behind."

The defender highlighted how Liverpool had prepared for Brentford's set-piece threat, yet conceded from a long throw within five minutes: "We've worked on the long-throw and everything, and five minutes in you concede three long throw-ins. One of them you concede from."

Most damning was his assessment of the tactical execution: "They would have had a clear gameplan and I think they played theirs perfectly. We didn't play ours at all."

Robertson acknowledged that Liverpool's approach deteriorated further after falling 3-1 behind, with the team abandoning any tactical coherence in desperate pursuit of goals.

"But then you're 3-1 down and it's just about throwing bodies forward and it becomes chaotic. There's no structure to it which is never good," he admitted.

The defender was equally candid about Liverpool's overall performance, suggesting they were fortunate to even threaten a comeback.

"Coming in at 2-1, we probably didn't deserve it really," Robertson told LFC TV, before adding that Brentford dominated the second half restart.

Despite Salah's late goal creating tension, Robertson maintained his honest assessment: "We try and push and nearly score right at the end but, to be honest, if we got a draw today it would have probably flattered us."

Robertson concluded by acknowledging the team's dire form and emphasising the need for immediate improvement ahead of their packed fixture schedule.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"The results have been nowhere near good enough over the last five or six games. We're the only ones who can get us out of it. We know that," he stated.

The defender stressed that Liverpool must increase their work rate across all aspects: "We've got to work harder. In training, in games, recovering better. When you're at this football club, people demand results."

With another match arriving on Wednesday, Robertson noted there would be no opportunity to regroup: "Starting Wednesday again, there's no rest. There's no time to re-group. We've got games, games, games."

He concluded: "We need to start playing better and we need to start showing a lot more consistency in our game."
