The German could be relieved of his duties, despite his impressive work at Elland Road

Leeds United are reportedly considering whether to sack Daniel Farke, despite the German guided them to promotion back to the Premier League.

The Whites are currently top of the Championship table and secured a return to the top flight with a 6-0 victory over Stoke City on Sunday.

According to the Daily Mail, however, Elland Road bosses have reservations about whether the German is the right man to ensure top-flight survival, which is viewed as vital for the club's future.

No final decision has been made, with club officials aware that such a controversial move could backfire given his popularity.

Other candidates are already being examined ahead of what is described as a pivotal moment for the Yorkshire club.

Farke is arguably the Championship's most successful manager, having led both Norwich City (twice) and Leeds to promotion.

His three full seasons in England's second tier have produced remarkable points tallies of 94, 97, and 90.

Leeds currently sit on 94 points with two games remaining in their campaign.

This consistent success in securing promotion has established Farke as one of the most reliable managers for Championship clubs seeking a return to the Premier League.

However, Farke's Premier League record at Norwich City has triggered concerns among Leeds' US-based owners, 49ers Enterprises.

In his first top-flight season with Norwich, the Canaries finished bottom with just 21 points, 14 points from safety.

He was sacked early in his second Premier League campaign after collecting only five points from 11 matches.

This disappointing top-flight performance history has led Leeds' ownership to question whether Farke can deliver the Premier League survival they consider essential.

Leeds face significant financial challenges in building a Premier League-ready squad, with an outlay exceeding the £107m spent by Ipswich likely needed.

Complying with Premier League profit and sustainability rules presents a major hurdle for the club.

Financial accounts are evaluated over a three-year period, and Leeds will be recorded as a Championship club for two of those years.

This reduced revenue means players will need to be sold to balance the books.

Whether suitable buyers can be found at acceptable prices remains uncertain.

The club is also planning to expand Elland Road, though infrastructure spending is exempt from PSR calculations.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Names such as Jose Mourinho have previously been linked with the Leeds job.

However, the club is keen to find a lesser-known manager should they decide to replace Farke.

This approach follows the success of Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth.

Interestingly, Leeds had attempted to appoint Iraola before turning to Farke.

The club made an approach for the Spanish coach but were blocked by his then-employers Rayo Vallecano.

Leeds are unlikely to make any change unless they have a replacement lined up who they firmly believe will succeed.

The potential backlash from supporters presents a significant risk for Leeds' ownership if they proceed with replacing Farke.

Should a new manager get off to a poor start, the atmosphere at Elland Road could quickly deteriorate.

Club officials recognise this danger, acknowledging that such a controversial decision could alienate fans who have celebrated Farke's promotion success.
