The German's swansong is off to the perfect start

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out after his side beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday, labelling his side's victory 'absolutely insane'.

The Reds secured the trophy after a thunderbolt header from Virgil van Dijk, with the Netherlands international powering converting in the 119th minute of the contest.

Chelsea were plucky in defeat and, had it not been for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, could have lifted the prize.

But Liverpool and Klopp were visibly delighted with their victory, with the Merseyside giants winning the Carabao Cup for the 10th time in their history.

The German celebrated with his players as they were serenaded to a special edition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by their fans at Wembley.

And Klopp has now hailed his players, dubbing their win 'absolutely insane' while speaking to Sky Sports.

"It is absolutely insane, these things are not possible," he said.

"Besides a team, a squad, the academy...it's full of character. It's unbelievable what happened here tonight.

"I am so, I don't feel it often, but I am so proud of that I could be part of that tonight. Wow.

"How we played...the crazy stuff is we deserved it. We had lucky moments, they had lucky moments, that's fine because it was a tough game, 20 minutes crazy.

"And the boys showed up. It was really cool."

On Van Dijk's winner, he added: "Yeah tonight definitely [is the perfect conclusion to his time as manager].

"I am pretty sure, when we brought on all the kids, people were thinking 'that's it they gave up, game on Wednesday' and that's really not the case.

"We needed fresh legs, legs that were fresh but very young.

"But it did the job, they did the job.

"It changed for me, what they did is unbelievable."

Van Dijk has also spoken out.

And the Liverpool star was equally delighted, insisting the club are hoping to add to their silverware haul by the time Klopp walks off into the sunset come the end of the season.

"I won't speak too soon, but hopefully we can win a few more," admitted the Dutchman.
