Barton has gained notoriety for his outspoken opinions online and has previously caused a stir with his comments about the women's game.

Hayes was furious with her opposite number Eidevall after the game and shoved into the Arsenal boss as they went to shake hands.

Speaking after the match, Hayes slammed Eidevall for his 'male aggression and fronting up to players'.

Her anger appeared to stem from an incident earlier in the match between Eidevall and Erin Cuthbert.

Barton replied to Hayes' remarks, posting on X: "Emma's right.

"Male aggression should be in male game. Female aggression in female game. Only way to sort it."

When asked later by one of his followers for his opinion on Hayes' shove on Eidevall, he added: "Nothing to do with me."

Another used asked whether his original comment meant he thought 'all male managers in the women's game' should be sacked.

Barton appeared to be sarcastic in his reply as he called for Eidevall's sacking immediately.

Barton announced shortly after that he was going to stop being nasty on social media and pleaded for no 'negative energy' in response.

"I’ve decided now and forever that I’m only going to be nice to people on @X/ Twitter," he wrote.

"Even if it means me getting frustrated from time to time. Positive energy only.

"No negative energy back would be hugely appreciated and help on this new journey."
