The 18-year-old was stretchered off the field on Monday

Chelsea have provided an update on Jesse Derry after Monday's 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi netted a brace, with Igor Jesus scoring a penalty, as Vitor Pereira's men cruised to victory in west London.

There was concern in the first half when Derry, making his debut, collided with Zach Abbott in the air.

The teenager was stretchered off the field before later being taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for precautionary checks.

Given the serious nature of the injury, fans both inside the ground and on social media were left fearful.

But Chelsea have now provided a positive update, confirming the 18-year-old is conscious and talking following the incident.

"Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following his first-half substitution during today’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest," they said.

While the Blues scored a terrific late consolation through Joao Pedro, it was yet another horrendous day for the west London titans.

Chelsea have now lost their last six league games, with their hopes of securing Champions League football for next season virtually all but over.

It wasn't what many supporters had in mind at the start of the season, especially given their Club World Cup triumph last summer.

And Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher didn't hold back in his assessment, branding the Blues a 'broken club' and suggesting there's no camaraderie within the squad.

"It's shocking and it comes from the top," said the former Liverpool defender.

"There are five or six really top players on the pitch today and they've been beaten by Nottingham Forest's B team.

"Less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners.

"There's no connection between the players and the staff, the players and the fans.

"In some ways, it's a good thing because it tells you that football isn't just all about spending money, buying players and this revolving door.

"It's about creating togetherness and there's nothing there. They look like a broken football club right now."

Chelsea will face Liverpool, Tottenham and Sunderland in their remaining three league games, while they're also due to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 16.

As for Forest, their last three league games are against Newcastle, Manchester United and Bournemouth. Before those, however, they'll face Aston Villa in the second leg of their Europa League tie leading 1-0 from the first game at the City Ground.
