Rangers 1-2 Hearts: Danny Rohl's men suffer defeat as the Jambos go nine points clear

Hearts have tightened their grip on the Scottish Premiership summit after a brilliant 2-1 triumph over Rangers at Tynecastle this afternoon.

Derek McInnes's side sit six points clear of Celtic, who beat Aberdeen to end a dreadful run of four consecutive defeats.

The Jambos are flying right now, and this latest victory means they'll be top of the table on Christmas Day for the first time since 1991.

It's a remarkable turnaround for the Edinburgh club, who have now gone five league matches unbeaten and look every inch genuine title contenders.

The opener came from a beautifully worked set piece just before half-time. Alexandros Kyziridis rolled a short corner to Claudio Braga, who cleverly back-heeled it back to the Greek winger.

Kyziridis then whipped in a superb inswinging delivery, and Stuart Findlay rose highest to power home a header from close range.

Just four minutes later, Hearts were in dreamland. A long ball was flicked on by Oisin McEntee and then Braga, allowing Lawrence Shankland to ghost in behind the Rangers backline.

From the tightest of angles, the captain somehow squeezed his shot between Jack Butland's legs and the near post.

This victory means Hearts have now beaten both Celtic and Rangers twice this season – a feat that's got fans dreaming of something truly special.

They're the first side since Dundee back in 1985 to claim four successive wins against the Old Firm clubs, which tells you everything about how well McInnes has got this team performing.

The Glasgow giants have dominated Scottish football for four decades now, with Aberdeen under Alex Ferguson the last non-Old Firm side to lift the title way back in 1985.

Hearts haven't been champions since the 1959/60 season, but suddenly those dreams feel very real indeed.

Rangers arrived in Edinburgh riding an 11-game unbeaten streak under Danny Rohl, but they left having suffered their first away league defeat of 2025.

The Ibrox side now trail Hearts by a whopping 12 points, though they do have a game in hand.

Youssef Chermiti grabbed a late consolation after a defensive mix-up, but it was far too little, too late.

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd didn't mince his words after the match: "Rangers are out of it, they are finished and can forget about it, 12 points is too much to claw back."
