Thomas Frank was sacked by Tottenham on Wednesday after a dismal run of form

Harry Redknapp has thrown his name into the mix for the Tottenham job after Thomas Frank was given the boot on Wednesday morning.

The 78-year-old, who managed Spurs between 2008 and 2012, made it clear he'd love another crack at the role.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: "Would I fancy it? Of course I would do it, without any shadow of a doubt."

The former boss, who guided the club to Champions League qualification back in 2010, isn't exactly sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring though.

"They've got my number. If anyone wants to ring me, they know where I am," he added.

Redknapp reckons he's got what it takes to turn things around in north London, even if he knows the call probably won't come.

"But I am a realist - I don't live in (cloud) cuckoo land. It is very doubtful if I would get the job," he admitted.

"But could I do the job? Yeah, of course I could do the job."

The veteran manager believes Spurs need to strip things back and focus on the fundamentals.

"What they need now is someone to go in, get down to basics, hard work - when you lose the ball, don't be embarrassed to run and try to get it back," he explained.

"Work together, bit of confidence. Make them believe in themselves."

Frank's departure came after a dismal 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle on Tuesday night, with supporters making their feelings known through boos at half-time and again at the final whistle.

It's been a torrid start to the year for Spurs, who haven't managed a single Premier League victory in 2026 – their last win came against Crystal Palace before New Year.

The club now finds itself languishing in 16th place, just five points clear of the drop zone.

Their next fixture is the north London derby against Arsenal on February 22, which will be a massive test for whoever takes charge.

Several names have already been linked with the vacant position, including former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who parted ways with Marseille by mutual consent on Tuesday.

John Heitinga, who served as Frank's assistant, could step in on a temporary basis while the club searches for a permanent appointment.

Meanwhile, Glenn Hoddle has expressed sympathy for his fellow former Spurs manager and player.

"He's had some crippling injuries to a lot of talented players he couldn't call upon - a big reason why we didn't see him flourish at Spurs," Hoddle said.

"This is a fact not excuses."
