Harry Maguire has signed a contract extension with Manchester United until 2027, with the option for a further year, the club have announced.

The England centre-back has made 266 appearances and won the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup since joining the club in 2019.

He served as captain for both his club and country during his time in Manchester.

Maguire was in the final few months of his existing deal, with speculation he could leave the Red Devils in the summer after joining from Leicester in an £80million deal back in 2019.

Maguire said: "Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.

"I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.

"You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad.

"The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us."

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United director of football, said: "Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United.

"He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.

"Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success."

The defender has started every game since Michael Carrick took charge in January, with United sitting third in the Premier League.

The side has only lost one out of 10 games since the new manager took charge.

He made his first appearance for the Three Lions in 18 months when he played both friendlies at Wembley.

The Manchester United man is firmly in the conversation to travel with the team to this summer’s World Cup.

Premier League stars Marc Guéhi and Ezri Konsa appear to be Tuchel’s first-choice centre-back pairing, with Tuchel waiting on John Stones to recover full fitness.

The England boss also revealed Trevoh Chalobah is ahead of Maguire owing to his mobility.

Dan Burn is another defender who has emerged as a top candidate under the German manager and was one of 11 players to return to the squad before the Three Lions' loss to Japan at Wembley.

Tuchel is required to submit his final World Cup squad on May 30 and has warned players that were previously seen as nailed-on starters might not make the 26-man list.
