The former Manchester United footballer has given his take on a crucial transfer window

Gary Neville has named the four players Manchester United must sell this summer for the club to move forward.

United have moved quickly to revamp their side after one of the worst seasons in their history - losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final and finishing 15th in the Premier League.

The Red Devils already announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5million this week, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo outlining his desire to join the team at Old Trafford.

While the club can bring players in, the financial implications of missing out on European football mean United will need to sell players to recoup the lost income.

Neville believes that among the players that should be removed from the club are; Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho.

The first three stars have all been out on loan for at least the last six months. Meanwhile, Garnacho has publicly clashed with boss Ruben Amorim after defeat to Spurs and seems set to leave Old Trafford.

Despite being an academy product, Neville stated that when a player publicly clashes with a manager, “the manager has to win.”

“Marcus Rashford has to leave for him and the club,” he said on the It's Called Soccer podcast.

“I would worry that Aston Villa haven't announced that they're keeping him already because I think that could have been an easy deal to do with United if they were going to keep him, so it sounds to me like Villa aren't going to keep him. I would say for Marcus' sake and for United's sake that it feels like that path has come to an end.”

Barcelona is reportedly among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old.

Neville believes the same needs to be done for Jadon Sancho: “Again, Manchester United have to make sure they part ways with him and, from Jadon's point of view, he has to make sure that he parts ways with Manchester United.”

The former Manchester United man also shared the view that Antony has found his "perfect" fit in Seville and that "he’s suited to the ground".

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Neville believes that too many managers have left for them to replace Amorim, so Garnacho should look elsewhere after their falling out following the Europa League final.

While Neville wants to see the four players leave the club, there is one he is very much against leaving United.

Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo, no. That's a step too far,” said Neville. “If we can't give Kobbie Mainoo a job in that two in midfield… I look at Mainoo and the way he plays football and I think a top club would want him. Why can't we make him a top player? If he's one of ours and he's shown talent.

“I don't know what's gone on there in the last few months. He's obviously had some injuries which has caused him a problem so he needs to stay fit, but I'd like to think he could be one of that two in midfield that Ruben Amorim plays.”
