Gabby Logan has spoken candidly about how the menopause affected her sex life - and how hormone replacement therapy helped her rediscover her libido and intimacy with husband Kenny.
The Match of the Day presenter admitted that when she entered perimenopause in her mid-40s, her sex drive “went on an extended holiday,” leaving her feeling disconnected and frustrated.
“My libido was definitely affected by the menopause and perimenopause,” Logan, 52, told The Sun.
“I found I didn’t want to have sex with my husband Kenny as much, and it felt like something I was going to have to have even if I didn’t really want to. It was almost like, ‘Is this going to become a duty?’”

Determined not to let the change undermine her relationship, Logan said she wanted to continue enjoying sex rather than seeing it as an obligation.
“So many women say this and I didn’t want to become one of them,” she explained.
“Orgasms are good for us - they release endorphins that boost your mood and oxytocin, the hug hormone, which builds intimacy and connection.
“I’d always had a very healthy relationship with Kenny. I loved him and fancied him as much as ever, and I couldn’t understand why I no longer wanted sex as much as before.”

| PAAfter confiding in fellow broadcaster Mariella Frostrup on her podcast The Mid-Point, Logan sought advice from a doctor specialising in hormone therapy.
“The doctor told me that my female hormones were on the floor — as were my testosterone levels,” she recalled.
“I was surprised but not emotional about it. I just wanted to feel like me again.”
She began hormone replacement therapy (HRT), combining small doses of oestrogen and testosterone gels with progesterone tablets.

| PA“My lack of libido wasn’t my only motivation to take HRT, but it was certainly an important one,” she said.
“When I understood that I could get my former sex drive back, it was an enormous relief.
“Within a few weeks I noticed massive changes. My libido came back within about a week — it was a lovely feeling, like myself again.”
The results, she said, transformed her marriage.
“Once I was on HRT and my libido returned, our sex life was back on track - even to the extent of having daytime sex,” she laughed.
“There are plus points to becoming empty nesters! Our kids will kill me if I say any more.”
However, their renewed intimacy faced another challenge when Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022 and underwent surgery to remove his prostate gland.
“When that happens, erectile function can be massively affected and might not come back,” Logan explained.

“Kenny was very lucky and eventually it did, but it took a while.
“Not knowing what was going to happen was very challenging. I was thinking, what if this is forever?
“Then you feel, am I selfish for thinking that? But of course, you put the life of the person you love above your own personal pleasure.”
Logan said the experience tested their resilience as a couple but ultimately strengthened their bond.
“Priority number one was Kenny being healthy and well - but that also involves all parts of your relationship,” she reflected.
“In life there’s always something that can throw you off course, and if you haven’t built strong foundations, it can cause irreparable damage. The communication in your marriage will be tested, and if you haven’t got that sorted, it won’t be an easy ride. Your solidity and teamwork are going to be tested.”
