FA Cup final viewers have called for Gary Lineker to be sacked, with the presenter working on the match between Crystal Palace and Manchester City despite finding himself embroiled in controversy earlier this week.

The 64-year-old shared a post on Instagram, which was later deleted, about Israel.

The pro-Palestine video featured a rat emoji and sparked outrage among Jewish organisations, with many calling for Lineker to be stood down.

While he's leaving Match of the Day next week, he's still working with the Beeb on today's FA Cup final and will continue to cover the competition next season.

Furthermore, Lineker is also set to keep working as a presenter until the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The former England striker defended himself earlier this week, insisting he didn't mean to cause any offence.

"I take full responsibility for this mistake. That image does not reflect my views," Lineker stated.

However, some fans on social media still feel the presenter should be axed for his controversial antics.

FA Cup viewers on Saturday made their feelings clear, with one saying: "He should be sacked."

A second wrote: "I'm not watching Lineker.... Why hasn't he been sacked yet?"

Another said: "How long is it going to take before the BBC sack Lineker?"

And a fourth wrote: "The less said about the him, the better.

"Lineker is close to being axed with immediate effect. Shouldn’t be anywhere near Wembley today."

Some BBC staffers with Jewish heritage are unhappy that the broadcaster has, so far, resisted calls to relieve Lineker of his duties.

Whether he lasts much longer, following his social media activity that caused such anger, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Palace and City meet in the FA Cup final with one of the most prestigious trophies of them all on the line.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner previewed the clash by saying: "If something is the first time in your life then maybe it means more to you than when you have it every single year.

"City, I don't know how many trophies they've won and finals they have played in under Pep. It's definitely more than Crystal Palace.

"But for the players, the manager, the club, winning a title is something great in the season.

"I don't expect that they will wave us the white flag and say: 'Okay, it's the first title for Crystal Palace, you should get it'. I think they will fight to win it."

And City boss Pep Guardiola added: “We want to win for our fans. The guys who travel, I want to say thank you for coming to London.

“Winning is much better than losing, but last year we came into having won four in a row and maybe our mind was not perfect.

“But one year later we are there again.”
