Newcastle registered their first away win of the Premier League season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Everton at the Bramey Moore Dock stadium on Saturday night.

Pressure has been mounting on Eddie Howe, with the Toon a shadow of the side that won the Carabao Cup and secured Champions League football last season.

But Newcastle were outstanding on Saturday night, with Malick Thiaw netting a brace and Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade on target as the visitors ran riot.

GB News sports editor Jack Otway now takes a look at four things we learnt from the showdown.

Pressure eases on Howe

Some Newcastle fans have called on Howe to leave the club this season.

Fed up of seeing their side toil in the wake of Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool, the Englishman has found himself copping plenty of flak.

But Newcastle's decision to stick, rather than twist, is starting to pay off.

They were excellent last week as they beat Manchester City 2-1 at St James' Park following a brilliant brace from Harvey Barnes.

And this was an equally impressive display.

Newcastle still have plenty of work to do if they're to qualify for the Champions League but this, certainly, is a step in the right direction.

Moyes will be miffed

Everton went into the game on a high after beating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Monday night.

They defended diligently on that occasion, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's effort enough to secure all three points.

This, however, is a night to forget.

Everton were dire, particularly in the first half, showing none of the unity and spirit that was so impressive earlier in the week.

David Moyes, sitting in the dugout, could only sit back in frustration.

The Scot, without a doubt, will be appalled by what he witnessed.

Thiaw continues to shine

Plenty has been off at Newcastle this season ever since Isak's exit.

But Thiaw has been a shining light throughout the campaign, with the defender continuing to establish himself in the Premier League.

His first goal was a fine header, while Jordan Pickford should have done better for his second.

If Newcastle are to push for Europe, keeping their rock at the back fit will be key.

Woltemade returns to form

Nick Woltemade, like his manager, faced plenty of scrutiny earlier in the season.

But the Germany international continues to score key goals and his exploits have ensured that Isak hasn't been missed too much.

Woltemade took his goal excellently, with his lofted chip over Pickford beautifully weighted.

Having failed to score against City and Marseille, Howe will now be hoping his talisman can continue to deliver the goods.
