Portugal's captain will be eligible to lead his nation in their 2026 World Cup opening fixture following FIFA's decision to suspend two matches of his three-game punishment.
The global football authority confirmed on Tuesday that whilst the 40-year-old forward received a three-match ban, only one game takes immediate effect.
The remaining two fixtures have been suspended, contingent upon the player avoiding similar disciplinary infractions during a twelve-month probationary period.
This ruling ensures the veteran striker can participate in Portugal's tournament next summer, provided he maintains disciplinary standards in the intervening months.

The dismissal occurred during Portugal's 2-0 loss in Dublin on 13 November, marking the forward's inaugural straight red card across 226 international appearances.
Video assistant referee review confirmed violent conduct after he struck Ireland defender Dara O'Shea with his elbow away from play.
The unprecedented sending-off meant the Al-Nassr player missed Portugal's subsequent qualifier, a comprehensive 9-1 victory against Armenia that secured their tournament qualification.
This match constituted the sole game of his suspension that takes immediate effect.

| INSTAGRAMFIFA's disciplinary code mandates minimum three-match bans for assault, encompassing actions such as elbowing, punching or striking opponents. The governing body's regulations formed the basis for the sanction imposed on Portugal's all-time leading scorer.
FIFA outlined the conditional nature of the suspension in an official statement: "In line with article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the serving of the two remaining matches has been suspended under a one-year probation period."
The governing body clarified the consequences of any future transgressions during this period.
Should the Portuguese international commit another offence of comparable severity within the next twelve months, the suspended punishment would be automatically reinstated.
"If Cristiano Ronaldo commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension set out in the disciplinary decision shall be deemed automatically revoked and the remaining two matches must be served immediately," FIFA confirmed.
This would require immediate enforcement at Portugal's subsequent official fixtures.
The decision enables the veteran forward to potentially achieve an unprecedented milestone by becoming the first footballer to feature in six World Cup tournaments.

Portugal secured their place in next summer's tournament following their emphatic victory over Armenia, completing their qualifying campaign despite the setback in Dublin.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, now 40, continues to lead his national team as they prepare for another major tournament.
His availability for the opening match removes a significant concern for Portugal's coaching staff, who will rely on their captain's experience and leadership during the group stage next summer.
