The Portuguese delivered in yet another final before sharing an emotional moment after the final whistle

Cristiano Ronaldo has discussed his retirement plans yet again after Portugal’s Nations League triumph over Spain on Sunday evening.

The 40-year-old won his third trophy with Portugal on Sunday evening, adding to a career total of 34 titles.

The Portuguese legend has not slowed his goalscoring form down either, hitting the back of the net 35 times for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr this season.

Ronaldo also scored eight goals in nine Nations League games this campaign, including a crucial equaliser in Sunday's final that they eventually went on to win.

Ronaldo could be seen in tears and dropped to the floor after the trophy was secured, evidently taking in what may be one of his final titles in a trophy-laden, legendary career.

But, after the game, in which he left the field injured in the 88th minute, Ronaldo discussed his potential retirement plans.

“You know how old I am already, obviously I'm closer to the end than I was at the beginning but I have to enjoy every moment,” he said.

“If I don't get seriously injured, I'll keep going.”

The comments come amid rumours the highest international goalscorer of all time could be leaving current club Al-Nassr after another season without a trophy, with boyhood club Sporting Lisbon and River Plate, of Lionel Messi’s Argentina, interested.

However, reports from French outlet Foot Mercato now claim Al-Nassr have reached a "full agreement" with Ronaldo to extend his contract.

The report suggests a deal has already been signed, with the former Real Madrid star expected to remain with the Saudi club until 2027.

The contract would ensure Ronaldo remains playing until he is 42, and potentially put him in reach of the 1,000th career goal.

He would be the first player to achieve such a feat, with Pele, despite claiming over 1,200 goals including friendlies and post-retirement exhibition matches, having 757 goals recognised by Fifa.

Despite scoring his 938th career goal in Sunday’s final, and his 138th for Portugal, Ronaldo insisted he had been carrying an injury that had led to his eventual substitution towards the end of the game.

He said: “I felt the injury since the warm-up, it’s been bothering me for a while. But for Portugal, if I had to break my leg, I would do it.

“It’s a title, I had to play and gave everything.”

It took Spain just 20 minutes to break the deadlock on Sunday, with Arsenal-bound Martin Zubimendi finding himself in the right place at the right time to tap in the opener.

Paris Saint-Germain star Nuno Mendes continued his terrific club form, replying in just five minutes by smashing the ball into the bottom corner of Unai Simon’s net.

Mikel Oyarzabal restored Spain’s lead before halftime, though, poking the ball past Portugal’s Diogo Costa.

Yet again, Ronaldo found an equaliser, meeting a looping ball on the volley from close range to take the game to extra time.

With the sides failing to be separated after 120 minutes, penalties ensued and it was former Chelsea star Alvaro Morata who failed from the spot, meaning Portugal took home their second Nations League title.
